The summit, scheduled to hold on June 13, 2019 at the Indoor Sports Hall,
National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos has the theme; Imperatives for
Building an Addiction-Free Society; Issues, Perspectives &
Prospects. Leading lights from the various sectors and substance abuse
ecosystem would be on the discussion panel.

The 2019 Nigeria Youth Summit is organized by TechTV in
conjunction with the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency
(NDLEA), US Embassy U.S Embassy, Indonesian Embassy, Kukish
Embassy, World Federation Against Drugs (WFAD), Drug Abuse Resistance
Education (D.A.R.E), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC),
Economic Community of West Africa (ECOWAS), Peace Corps of Nigeria, the
Albina Foundation, Freedom Foundation, Civil Society Network on Drug
Abuse, PADDI Foundation, Community Agenda for Peace, International
Centre for Leadership Development in Nigeria, Nigeria Police Force and the
Senate Committee on Drugs and Narcotics.

The Data collected from male arrestees in 2018 in 24 cities showed
that the percentage testing positive for any drug/substance ranged
from 42% to 79% across various cities while positive drug tests for
females arrested ranged from 38% to 85%. Drug/substance abuse in
Nigeria is estimated at 14.4 per cent or 14.3 million people aged between 15
and 64 years.  The extent of drug abuse use in Nigeria is comparatively high
when compared with the 2016 global annual prevalence of any drug use of
5.6 per cent among the young adult population. - National Bureau of
Statistics (NBS).

The Nigeria Youth Summit is a unique, annual gathering place to share
information, explore solutions, and fashion new possibilities for the
continued growth and empowerment of the Nigerian youth. It promises to be
an engaging and entertaining session with the youths and providing a unique
opportunity for knowledge sharing, interaction and networking.

Special attraction at the summit is The Nigeria Youth Ideas Contest devoted
to bringing out inspiring ideas from college/tertiary students; Ideas that can

help to lay the Building Blocks for a Digital Future for Nigeria. The Contest
will also encourage students regardless of their disciplines to share ideas
with their peers; inspiring ideas and thoughts on how to combat drug and
substance abuse among young people.

different perspectives on how to better protect the health and
wellbeing of their peers.
-To promote Government vision of forging a drug free society.
- To provide a platform for organisations to showcase and exhibit their
latest innovative solutions, products and skill set.
- To create a robust interface between various industries, Government,
private sector and the youths.
- To create opportunities for establishing strategic alliances and
partnerships for the purpose of empowerment, mentorship and
character molding.
- To bring together stakeholders from the drug abuse ecosystem to x-
ray and chart a new course for the future of youths.

Expected number of participants is Eight Hundred (800) from the field of drug and
substance abuse prevention, secondary and tertiary institutions, academia, Arts and
Entertainment, among others.

Day One: June 12. 7:00am
Event opens with a “Walkathon Against Drugs And Substance Abuse”
featuring top personalities from the Drug Abuse ecosystem, Arts,
Entertainment, Media and Youth Organisation among others.

Day Two: June 13. 9:00am
Conference & Expo is officially opened with Keynote presentation, panel
discussion and Youth Ideas Contest.
